re: multiple hues
i think i may try using one hue for females and one for males, strictly. the reason being that multiple hues don’t translate the same across a saturation and luminosity scale and create ambiguity when viewed next to each other.
this will require thinking of an alternate way to express unique individuals. thoughts on that to come soon.
map key idea. view full size here.
the idea behind this is that in a very complex visual system, a traditional map key will add an extra step of decoding to the viewer’s process. they have to the take the information from each ‘square’ (which contais no context) and make all visual translations themselves.
this working key fulfills both its primary function and also that of an example, leaving less clutter on the display.
